Project week 2018

Apprentices

Stove instead of plastics

What is a future plastics technologist doing at the stove? Taking part in the PLASTON project week for apprentices – and learning much more than just cooking. The apprentice fund founded by Honorary President Roland Frei makes far-reaching experiences possible every year.

First a refined curry soup, then a stuffed burger with a special ketchup, and a cider cream for dessert: that takes teamwork. Shopping, cooking, setting the table, serving, clearing up, washing up: if the meal is to be a treat for everyone, every task has to be coordinated.

Nine apprentices took part in the PLASTON project week in October 2018. They normally work in commercial, technical and IT roles and hardly meet in their everyday work and school life. But over the four project days they became a team in which every member could benefit from the others. Ardit, Danilo, Elis, Jessica, Joel, Kevin, Lisa, Pit and Serhii found a temporary instructor in Dieter Geuter, who has been giving cooking classes for 25 years and has a wealth of experience with people and the trade.

And apart from newly discovered cuisine, what do the nine take away from the project week? The experience of working and cooking together, the memory of teamwork and good company – and the taste of a heavenly Toblerone mousse.

Together with Lisa, Ardit compiled a cookbook with the menus of the four days and presented it to Roland Frei. Today Honorary President of PLASTON Holding AG, he founded the apprentice fund in 2006 for the company’s 50th anniversary. Every year the fund finances activities for the apprentices that go beyond vocational training, emphasise community, promote social skills and spark innovative creativity.
